WIP-Sophia's Garden

Hi from the world of Debbie Doodles Ink!
This is just a quick check in to show the progress on
a canvas mural in the works.
It is
Sophia's Garden.
This mural has been posted before,
but, I think, it was posted under
The Fanciful Elephant Emporium.

Work continues and although it does seem rather dark right now
It will be more nursery worthy by the time I am done.
This is the layer with the darks.
Lightness, frilly stuff and sparkle is yet to come.

The Nekos Are Here! The Nekos Are Here!

My Maneki Nekos just arrived today! So fast. I have posted this on facebook a couple of times. My friend Eleanor is making  earrings, bracelets and necklaces with profits going to the charity of your choice from her list of charities.

So far she has raised $1000 and is now going for $2000! Each piece is one of a kind hand made by her. When she has received your payment and choice of jewelry as well as your choice for charity - she prepares your order - makes the donation and emails you the receipt for your contribution - then sends you your piece.

I just donated/ordered Monday and here they are today! They are adorable and come in this cute little box - great if you want to give them as a gift.

Here is Eleanor's Facebook  link for more information or pass this along to your friends. She is now making necklaces and bracelets available in addition to the earrings.

"Maneki Nekos ~ the traditional Good Fortune Cats ~ we have  now raised $1000 for various relief organizations: Red Cross, Save the Children, The International Medical Corp., the Japan Earthquake and Tsunami Relief Fund, the Salvation Army, MercyCorps,  Peace Winds Japan, Doctors Without Borders, Japan Earthquake Animal Rescue and Support, and World Vets."

Birthday Banners

Yea! Birthday Banners are back up in my Etsy store. I love making Birthday Banners they are a fun way to Celebrate * Appreciate * Exhilarate that special day that comes by only once a year! Birthday Banners make a great First Birthday gift or Nursery Decor for a newborn.

The most fun part of these Banners is the Photo Pocket where you can insert an updated photo every year! See each and every year how much you have changed. These Birthday Banners are destined to be treasured family heirlooms - chronicling changes and sharing childhood with generations to come.

Illusionaries© are coming soon!

Thank you for checking in. Have a Doodle Day!

2010 The Year in Review

2010 began, for me, with the best of intentions to do more drawing and creating of items to be sold on Etsy and Zazzle. Work ebay with rejuvenated items for sale. Participate in local Craft Shows.

Than came the wedding. Without a doubt THE MOST EXCITING
, AMBITIOUS AND CREATIVE PROJECT EVER! Sets and signs to design, build and paint. Amazing and exciting sets! Sets, something I longed to do. Also . . . cleaning sorting and helping the client and dear friend prepare the house for the wedding. Preparing the house is not a small feat in and of itself.

Did I price the project right? Absolutely not. Well, that would mean she would pro
bably cut the project and my very excited chomping at the bit artist self just could not deal with that.

Did I at least estimate my ti
me well? That would mean that I would have to paint fast, not be the perfectionist I am - and would have to have some knowledge of what it would take to work with the new materials I was about to dive into. Did I mention we were living in a loft and most of this work would be done in my living room and dining room. Did I also mention how much I love my husband and how understanding and tolerant he is of my messes? I do and he is . . . Did you also catch that while we began thinking and talking about this project in May of 2009 we did not begin until January 2010? Originally there were to be six (yes, six) sets with signs. We did all six signs but only in the end three sets. We used other props for the other signs.

I confess, my eyes lit up, all I could see was how much fun I wo
uld have creating them and how amazing they would look as part of the wedding reception and of course in my portfolio. I am not thinking of money. I am not thinking of time. I am not thinking like a business person at all. Only the artist and the delighted 10 year old are with me now as I squeal, excitedly jump up and down and say, "Can I go home and start drawing and painting NOW?" Realistic - schmealistic!

I ended up embarrassed, frustrated and exhausted. You see, bad
pricing left me with no room to hire any help. Some sets were deleted, there simply was not time. The client even had to scramble to decorate an area not covered by the intended set . . . on the day of the wedding.

That takes us through the sixth of March. During the rest of March I
touched up and finished the sets which were photographed and photoshopped into some of the shots. The end of march my van broke down and needed a water pump.

In April I did manage to pull some inventory together to do my first show. Cost of booth $60. Driving 50 miles each way for two days. One sale $20.00. At least I was sharing the booth with two other great artisans and did not have to fill the space myself. Being with friends we did have a good time and got to know each other better.

In May the van broke down for good at 65 miles per hour on the fre
eway. Just stopped. Had to get a new car. I love my new car!

June, My Mother decides to move to Houston. I should be gearing up for fourth quarter sales . . . but of course family first.

Celebrate • Appreciate • Exhilarate

These three words have been on many of my emails since May 2009. They are on many, but not all, because they alternate with "Joie de Vivre" and simply "Cheers."

The chalkboard currently residing in my laundry room says "Celebrate Today . . . Everyday."

Yesterday was a contemplative day, as I reflected on all I had NOT completed in 2010. Maybe "c'est la vie" (say-lah-vee) should be added to my email signatures . . . nah!

I do:

CELEBRATE all I did get done in 2010 (so far)

APPRECIATE Friends, Family, Clients, Pets, General Interruptions (including
plain procrastination) that most likely contributed to undone,
half done and not even close to starting projects.

EXHILARATE Well, I am exhilarated about the coming Holidays and New Year ahead.

During recent months I have been on a quest to do better, for myself, family and business. In that quest I came across seven lessons for success by Adam Braun of pencilsofpromise.org. Since, as of this writing, it is without permission, I will only tell you #4 is: "Find a mantra to anchor and guide you."

You are encouraged to go to the website, learn and contribute in any way you can. To Celebrate learning, Appreciate his efforts and Exhilarate a child who wants to learn.

I found my mantra that day in May in these three words - Celebrate-Appreciate-Exhilarate. I looked up all of their meanings and posted them on my computer where I see them daily. They are three very powerful words.

That is my mantra. My business mission statement.

In our hustle and bustle lives with sound bites we hear every single day it is so very important to find our own Celebrations each and every day. My plan is to publish inspires me to Celebrate, Appreciate and be Exhilarated each day.
It is how I choose to live my life from this day forward. I hope you will join me.
